About the Artist
Braxton Ponder (1915-2001)
Alabama folk artist Braxton Ponder is best known for his painted animal and biblical carvings. Although he produced these whimsical, powerfully simple carvings for the short span of approximately twelve years, and those in the last years of his life, his body of work continues to evoke admiration for his unique ability to capture the true essence of each animal or biblical figure.
